The only way to stay ahead of technology is to create the next big thing. That is what we began in 2008 with Endurica CL and what we are doing again, starting with the 2021-0904 release. The September 2021 update is JUST THE BEGINNING of Endurica’s change from our legacy fatigue solver to a fatigue solver with a completely new architecture. We began working on this major change in 2017 using the internal code name “Katana” after the finely-crafted curved, single-edge sword which was the Samurai’s primary weapon of battle. We are excited to release the initial version of our Katana solvers. Our Fatigue Ninjas will enjoy many competitive advantages by wielding it.
Note that all releases since September 2021 include the Katana fatigue solver in addition to the legacy fatigue solver.
Users who receive new software releases will now have both the legacy Endurica solvers and the new Katana-architected solvers. Both solvers will continue to be provided while features are being ported over to Katana. The long-term plan is for the Katana solver to eventually replace the Endurica solver.
What makes Katana the next big thing?
The Endurica solvers are completely rearchitected to enable multi-threading. This means that jobs of virtually any size are now distributed across as many CPUs as your computing hardware allows. Our benchmarks have shown excellent scaling behavior beyond 48 threads. The Katana architecture also implements input and output files following the widely used JSON standard making integrations into scripted workflows like Python or Matlab easier than ever. We also invested heavily in optimizing the code, and even without leveraging the new multi-threading capabilities, you will notice significant execution speed improvements. Another exciting new feature is Endurica’s Safety Factor which is a simple way to analyze whether your application operates above the intrinsic strength of your material.
Endurica’s mission is to provide the world’s most comprehensive tools and workflows for fatigue analysis of elastomers. Earlier this year we received the United States SBA Tibbetts Award which is reserved for the best of the best in technology research and development. The Katana solvers are the next generation which further embody the entrepreneurial spirit and scientific excellence this award represents. The only way to stay ahead of technology is to create the next big thing.
